2 Dead In Early Morning Far Rockaway Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Two people have died following an early morning fire in Queens.

The fire broke just after 4 a.m. Monday on the first floor of a two-story home on Wheatley Street near Brunswick Avenue in Far Rockaway.

Inside, police said firefighters found two women unconscious and unresponsive. The women were taken to Saint John’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Fire officials said Monday’s weather conditions and wind hampered the operations and made it a difficult fire to fight.

Some firefighters were also injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
