WWE legend CM Punk finally confirms return to the Octagon to fight at UFC 225

WWE legend CM Punk finally confirms return to the Octagon to fight at UFC 225

CM PUNK has confirmed he will return to the Octagon at UFC 225.

The WWE legend had been rumoured to be in discussions with Dana White to make his comeback in his hometown of Chicago in June.

But the 39-year-old has vowed to make up for the loss to Mickey Gall in his one and only UFC fight after his stunning announcement.

Punk broke the news on Twitter as he was clapping back at trolls.

Responding to being asked on the social media platform: "When are we gonna see you cry again in the Octagon?"

The former WWE world champion said: "June nine, after I win and lock eyes with my beautiful wife, embrace my coaches and shout out my entire team."

There is still no confirmation from UFC itself or who his opponent will be.

MMA Fighting claimed last month that negotiations were well underway for him to face Mike Jackson.

Punk quit WWE around the 2014 Royal Rumble, an event in which he entered No1 and lasted over 49 minutes before he was eliminated by Kane.

He was scheduled to appear to Raw the next night but never showed, instead opting to leave the company.

He set his sights on MMA and secured a match against Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

But he had a debut to forget inside the cage and tapped out via a rear naked choke in the first round.

And afterwards UFC president White admitted that his Punk’s next fight perhaps should not be in his promotion.

"He probably shouldn't have his next fight in the UFC.

"Just like I said with Brock [Lesnar], having your first fight in the UFC is tough and you [saw] tonight, even if it's against a guy who is 2-0. This is a tough place to learn."

But now it appears White is willing to give the ex-WWE world champion another shot in the Octagon.

The chief told AP last month: "I like that guy. He's a good dude.

"He wants to give it another shot. I'm going to give it to him.

"He's a completely different case than most normal human beings. So, I'm going to give him another shot."

Punk and Jackson do have something in common apart from sharing 0-1 record – they both lost in the opening round to Gall.
