Congrats to Idris Elba!
The 45-year-old actor is engaged to his girlfriend, Sabrina Dhowre, after proposing at a screening of his new film, Yardie, on Saturday morning.
Rio Cinema in Dalston, London, confirmed the happy news alongside an Instagram video of Elba's proposal. The actor is seen bending down on one knee in the video, before excitedly getting up to hug his clearly shocked fiancee.
"Still 5 days to Valentines Day but @idriselba went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend live on stage this morning before a preview of his film #Yardie," the theater wrote on Twitter, while thos in attendance marveled at the surprise proposal.
Elba and Dhowre, a 29-year-old model and Miss Vancouver 2014, have been dating since last year after meeting while the actor was filming The Mountain Between Us in Canada. Elba has been married twice before, to Hanne ‘Kim’ Norgaard from 1999 until 2003 and to Sonya Nicole Hanklin in 2006. He shares 15-year-old daughter Isan with Kim, and is also dad to 3-year-old son Winston with his ex-girlfriend, Naiyana Garth.
In an interview with Essence last July, Elba insisted he would never tie the knot again -- though it seems Dhowre didn't take long to change his mind!
"Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don't think so," Elba told the magazine. "Yeah, I don't think so. Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I've done it. It's not for everybody. It's not my life's calling."
ET has reached out to Elba's rep for comment.
