Today’s Google Doodle Teaches You to DJ

Today’s Google Doodle Teaches You to DJ

Today, Google is celebrating the 44th anniversary of DJ Kool Herc’s instrumental break with a virtual DJ tutorial. The doodle, which you can find here, leads into a brief lesson on hip-hop’s origins in New York block parties, courtesy of Fab 5 Freddy. From there, you take charge of the decks. Using an interactive turntable and record crate, you can emulate the basics of crossfading, scratching, and more, all to a soundtrack including George Clinton, Grandmaster Flash, the Isley Brothers, and more. Questlove praised Google for “acknowledging the culture and the pioneers” in an Instagram post—check that out below, and read Google’s blog on the doodle here.
